We use regular expression matching to identify and redact types of PII (like emails, phone numbers, and addresses) locally before any data leaves your browser.

Your concern is absolutely valid. Recent incidents with extensions like Urban VPN Proxy, Clean Master, and Trust Wallet have shown that even popular extensions with millions of downloads can turn malicious or be compromised.

Ward is different because we architected security into our foundation from day one, not as an afterthought. We use regular expression matching to redact PII locally before any data leaves your device, and are constantly investigating how to improve user privacy. We're also working on Firefox and Safari versions, which offer better privacy guarantees than Chrome.

We recommend using independent tools like CRXplorer to verify extension safety yourself. The Ward team has reviewed CRXplorer's findings and has deemed the CSP vulnerability low risk but will release a fix soon.

We only collect the minimum data necessary to protect you from threats. This includes URLs and page content for threat detection, but we use regular expression matching to identify and redact PII (emails, phone numbers, addresses, etc.) locally before analysis. We also collect # of active user sessions to improve detection accuracy.

Your privacy is fundamentally not for sale, and our subscription model ensures we can build sustainably without exploiting users.
